What is a Water Fund?

Water Funds is an innovative model of long-term conservation that operates through investments that are focused on a single fund. The resources generated are assigned to preserve the essential lands above watersheds through conservation actions.

Latin American Water Funds Partnership

The partnership is a mechanism that allows to provide technical and financial assistance for the creation and strengthening of Water Funds. It provides support to local stakeholders to implement them, contributing to establish the management structure for each fund.

It also provides advice and technical expertise that can strengthen the operation of the funds, and also facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices among Water Funds and other stakeholders.

Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)

Leading institution in development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean. Provides financial strength and experience as a leader organization in the international financial community. It has the ability to try and harness the concept of Water Funds to their lending operations. Helps to reduce the operations risks and to improve efficiency of processes.

FEMSA Foundation

Their experience with projects that improve water quality in Mexico and Latin America is extensive. The FEMSA Foundation's vision reflects a commitment to sustainable development and social welfare. It also states an important leadership in the private sector that promotes the participation of other global stakeholders that work together towards conservation purposes.

Global Environment Facility (GEF)

Provides independent funding to developing countries and transitioning economies for projects that benefit the environment in a global level, incorporating local challenges and promoting sustainable livelihoods.  Supports innovative market solutions to the most pressing environmental challenges, allowing to gather significant support from the private sector, NGOs, development agencies and governments.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC)

It is the leader environmental organization in the world, with more tan 10 years of work in Water Funds. The foundation of its work is scientific and it has been working over 60 years for conservation.

Over 200 local and regional partners, who make the implementation possible and help fulfill the objectives of the Latin America Water Fund Partnership, helping to guarantee water for people and nature.
