Madre Agua brings together different sectors in favor of Cali’s water

With the presense of the Mayor of Cali, Dr. Rodrigo Guerrero and Gabriel Vallejo, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, along with representatives of public and private entities, academics and civil society members, the launch of Madre Agua (Mother Water) took place, as the first stablished Water Fund in Cali which will help protect the basins that supply water to the Cali, Cañaveralejo Melendez, LiliPance and PanceJamundí rivers.

Agua Tica the first Water Fund in Costa Rica is created

- Initiative with public-private participation to guard water heritage.
- $ 200,000 is the seed capital of this Water Fund.

Agua Tica is the first Water Fund created in Costa Rica and aims to protect the sources of water located in the sub basins of Rio Grande and Rio Virilla, which are part of the Rio Grande de Tárcoles river basin. Through Agua Tica there will be developed different activities to help ensure water quality and quantity for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Gran Área Metropolitana (Greater Metropolitan Area) - GAM.

Natural infrastructure investment may improve water quality for 100 million people in Latin-America

A new scientific analysis made by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) identifies 25 Latin-American cities that could be benefited from basins conservancy investment.

There is a huge opportunity to increase water resources quality through basins conservancy, according to a new report made by TNC which analyses favourable nature conditions as a competitive solution to water security challenges.

Recognition Water Fund Yaque del Norte

Yaque del Norte water fund was created with the propose of improving environment conditions to keep up river Yaque del Norte water basin health, Dominican Republic largest water basin with 7.053 Km2. Yaque water basin received last May 28th the legal incorporation certificate on behalf of attorney general's office, which recognize this mechanism as a significant progress regarding Latin-America water basins conservation.

TNC and ASEGAN sign an agreement for water basins conservancy

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and ASEGAN, with support of the Latin-American Water Funds, signed an agreement of cooperation and participation for biodiversity conservation and Brazil’s natural resources sustainable use, facilitating communication channels that will allow information exchange, technical, scientific, financial and institutional cooperation.

Lima, set to preserve its water springs

Lima, Peru, 23th April 2015 - For the first time in Peru, capital and reserves from income collections could possibly be earmarked to conserve vital water springs to guarantee the availability of water in Lima for years to come. It will also help attend to problems caused by natural disasters such as landslides, formation of alluviums, and other kinds of extreme phenomena caused by climate change. SUNASS (National Sanitation Service Supervision) published this for its project of Pricing Study corresponding to the future period of 2015-2020.
